What Are Dimensions?
Dimensions Defined Scientifically
Mainstream science refers to dimensions as the measurable parameters needed to locate a point in space/time. How do dimensions relate to planes of existence, planets, and realms? According to the International Astronomical Union (IAU), planets are considered celestial bodies orbiting a star. The terms realm and planes are primarily used in metaphysics, philosophy, and esoteric traditions. Ergo, realm is generally not considered a formal scientific term in physics, while plane is considered a two-dimensional, flat surface extending infinitely — as in a geometric plane.
While the existence of dimensions has been scientifically proven in the material universe, how many dimensions there are in the material and spiritual universes is up for debate. Mainstream science does seem to agree that there are at least four dimensions in the material universe. According to Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity, there are three spatial dimensions (length, width, and height) and one temporal dimension (time).
Dimensions Defined Spiritually
Dimension Versus Density
Esoteric communities tend to use the term dimension loosely, generally defining it as the mathematical coordinates, address, or grid of an environment — similar to GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude) or GCS measurements (degrees). The Law of One tends to favor the term density over dimension because density describes the mathematical concentration of light, ratio of love/light (spiritual energy) to light/love (material energy), or mass of light information in a given area. This area could be in the context of entities (mind/body/spirit complexes) or spaces (planes of existence or environments).
If one resonates with the concept that everything is simply intelligent energy (light) vibrating at different speeds, then perhaps the Law of One sees density as the most accurate way to describe the resolution of that light — whether it’s in the context of an entity or an environment. In the context of entities, density describes how much light an entity has integrated as spiritual energy or love/light (internal density) or an entity’s capacity to hold and transmit love/light. In the context of spaces, density describes the vibrational frequency and light concentration or ratio of light of a specific area of space or plane (environmental density).
This is all in contrast to dimensions which typically refer only to the mathematical grid of a given space. Think of it this way fellow souls. Calling something a dimension is like describing a house by its street address or square footage. Whereas, calling it a density is like describing the house by how many bedrooms and bathrooms it has. This difference can be significant. Say one wants to purchase a television. Two different televisions could have the same dimensions, like they are both 50-inch televisions. But, if one has a higher density of pixels (resolution), then it will display images clearer and with greater detail.
The Law of One suggests that spiritual evolution is not about moving to a different location (dimension), but about increasing the concentration of our love/light (density). Perhaps this is why if we say we’re moving to the 4th dimension, it sounds like we’re just moving to a place with an extra spatial axis (like a tesseract). Whereas moving to the 4th density means our consciousness level and density (concentration of love/light) has evolved to the point where we can perceive the love/light that was already there, but was too dense for us to pick up on. Ergo, we aren’t changing our location. We’re simply increasing our capacity to perceive what has been there all along.
Perhaps this explains why we can’t see angels or extraterrestrials even if they’re in the same room as us — they’re simply vibrating at a frequency our lower-density antennas aren’t currently tuned to.
Planets, Planes, Realms & Lokas
The terms dimension and density have often been used in relation to planets, planes, realms, and lokas. So let’s define each. Planets are generally considered worlds. Planes of existence (e.g. subtle astral plane) are generally considered the subjective, sensory environments that we experience as reality. They’re like the rooms we inhabit while in a dimension. It’s said that we can perceive planes of existence once we’ve tuned to specific vibrational frequencies or densities. Vibrational frequencies are like the software instructions that dictate how light behaves within a space while densities are considered the concentration of light in a plane of existence.
Realms are considered territories within a specific area or plane of existence, usually defined by specific laws or their inhabitants (e.g. dream realm). According to Swami Mukundananda (Bhakti Yog Saint & Yoga Teacher), lokas are a system of planes/realms defined by substance and location (Bhagavad Gita, 8:16-26). So while a plane of existence is synonymous with the look and feel of an environment, a realm is often synonymous with the identity and purpose of an environment.
Does this mean a single planet can exist simultaneously across multiple dimensions and planes of existence? We know, confusing. Consider this fellow souls. We could be standing in the 3rd dimension (physical location) experiencing a gross physical plane of existence, but through meditation, we can tune our consciousness level to a higher vibrational frequency, allowing us to temporarily perceive a higher plane of existence, like a subtle astral plane.
Is this what happens during an out-of-body experience (OBE) or subtle astral projection? Perhaps these types of experiences can take place because we already possess the bodies we need to experience higher planes of existence — these higher-density bodies are simply deactivated (unmanifested) in lower planes of existence. Ergo, our body density must match or be compatible with the environmental density.
It’s thought that each planet and its various planes of existence are constructed to create the ultimate school system — providing us with the conditions we need to master the different lessons we need to learn, challenges we need to overcome, and experiences we need to embark on for each consciousness level. Dharma (life’s purpose) becomes destiny when we’re willing to walk our paths.
TERM
EXAMPLE
FUNCTIONAL ROLE
Dimension
3rd Dimension
The mathematical grid, address, location, or coordinates of an environment.
Plane of Existence
Subtle Astral
The room we inhabit within a dimension. The subjective environment and sensory experience (look and feel) of the grid.
Realm / Loka
Satya Loka
The specific state of reality or kindgom governed by a certain quality of consciousness. Describes the identity and purpose of the environment.
Density (Consciousness / Environmental)
4th Density
The mathematical concentration or ratio of love/light and light/love in an entity or space (environment). Higher densities are more packed with love/light.
Consciousness Level
Christ Consciousness
The tuner or receiver’s capacity to tune to specific frequencies to perceive planes of existence.
